Voor jou zou ik… | Picturebook
Captivatingly beautiful, Ansgar Reul’s seemingly floating pictorial renditions enthral the reader while insinuating a double loss: the loss of a beloved person shadowed by the ever deepening loss of oneself. Throughout delicately drawn quests, and surreal encounters and memories, he blends warmly hued characters, motives, and structures into distinct compositions, complemented by but a handful of sparse sentences.

The making of Voor jou zou ik een bos doen groeien was generously supported by the Flemish Literature Fund. In 2019 it was shortlisted for the Berthold Leibinger Foundation’s ‘Comicbuchpreis’.

Het Stenen Hoofd | Installation
Het Stenen Hoofd is a defunct dock located in close proximity to Amsterdam’s city centre. For this installation, I gathered and evaluated both textual and visual source material that served to tell a multilayered history of the dock’s structure and the space it has become since being shut down for maritime usage.
In collaboration with Foundation Het Stenen Hoofd and Amsterdam project space W139, sixteen flags featuring a selection of images were installed on-site, modestly evoking various histories of the inner city ‘wasteland’ on which they were planted. QR codes attached to the flagpoles gave visitors access to background information on each flag’s respective motif.
ST // AR | Performance
Dancer and choreographer Simon Tanguy and I developed this performance to explore possible forms of interaction between live drawing and physical performance. The stage design consisted of a small, six-piece moveable podium and a screen at the back of the stage, broadcasting the top of my desk in real time. Both Simon’s performance and my visual meanderings followed a loose dramaturgy, devised to enable regular reversals of acting and reacting part.
